What is an external short circuit and what effect does it have on battery performance?
Connecting the two ends of the battery to any conductor will cause an external short circuit. Depending on the battery type, the short circuit may have consequences of different severity. For example: the electrolyte temperature rises, the internal air pressure rises, etc. If the air pressure value exceeds the battery cap's pressure resistance value, the battery will leak. This condition severely damages the battery. If the safety valve fails, it may even cause an explosion. Therefore never short-circuit the battery externally.
What conditions are best for batteries to be stored under?
According to IEC standards, batteries should be stored at a temperature of 20℃±5℃ and a humidity of (65±20)%. Generally speaking, the higher the battery storage temperature, the lower the remaining capacity rate, and vice versa. The best place to store batteries, especially primary batteries, is when the refrigerator temperature is between 0°C and 10°C. Even if the secondary battery loses capacity after storage, it can be restored as long as it is recharged and discharged several times.
Theoretically, there is always energy loss when a battery is stored. The inherent electrochemical structure of the battery determines that battery capacity will inevitably be lost, mainly due to self-discharge. Usually the size of self-discharge is related to the solubility of the cathode material in the electrolyte and its instability after heating (easy to self-decompose). Rechargeable batteries have a much higher self-discharge than primary batteries.

2. Charge at 0.25C for 3 hours and 10 minutes, discharge at 0.25C for 2 hours and 20 minutes (2-48 cycles)
3. Charge at 0.25C for 3 hours and 10 minutes, then discharge to 1.0V at 0.25C (49th cycle)
4. Charge at 0.1C for 16 hours, leave for 1 hour, discharge at 0.2C to 1.0V (50th cycle). For nickel-metal hydride batteries, after repeating 1-4 for a total of 400 cycles, the 0.2C discharge time should be greater than 3 hours; for nickel-cadmium batteries, repeating 1-4 for a total of 500 cycles, the 0.2C discharge time should be greater than 3 hours.
